En el sector residencial y terciario, esta acci\u00f3n se aplica en buscar sistemas m\u00e1s eficientes para obtener el confort t\u00e9rmico necesario en las viviendas.  para evaluar la eficiencia energ\u00e9tica del edificio hace falta hacer una simulaci\u00f3n energ\u00e9tica del mismo. Una simulaci\u00f3n energ\u00e9tica implica un c\u00e1lculo m\u00e1s detallado de los procesos de transferencia de calor que existen en el edificio. Y uno de los factores que m\u00e1s influyen en el comportamiento t\u00e9rmico del edificio es la cantidad de radiaci\u00f3n directa solar que llega a los mismos.  en la siguiente tesis doctoral se analizan las distintas metodolog\u00edas que utilizan los programas de simulaci\u00f3n existentes para el c\u00e1lculo de radiaci\u00f3n y sombras sobre el edificio. Como aportaci\u00f3n a esta campo se estudia la aplicaci\u00f3n del m\u00e9todo llamado shadow volumes en este tipo de aplicaciones, con lo que se obtienen unos c\u00e1lculos m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidos y precisos de sombras sobre el edificio, y con ello una estimaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s exacta a la radiaci\u00f3n incidente sobre los mismos.   en la tesis tambi\u00e9n se trata el tema de la interoperabilidad entre distintas aplicaciones, haciendo hincapi\u00e9 en la comunicaci\u00f3n entre un programa de an\u00e1lisis t\u00e9rmico de edificios y un programa de tipo cad para la definici\u00f3n geom\u00e9trica del mismo. De esta manera se analiza el uso del formato dxf para la comunicaci\u00f3n entre ambas aplicaciones.  finalmente se describe la metodolog\u00eda empleada en el programa vpclima para la simulaci\u00f3n t\u00e9rmica del edificio, y c\u00f3mo se aplica el m\u00e9todo radiant time series a cada uno de los agentes que influyen en el comportamiento t\u00e9rmico del
