Los casos tipo estudiados son: norman foster, sauerbruch &#038; hutton, embt, herzog &#038; de meuron, gigon &#038; guyer, william alsop, jean nouvel y mvrdv. \tlas circunstancias son el contexto art\u00edstico en que se desarrollan las obras, analizando su oposici\u00f3n o continuidad con la composici\u00f3n crom\u00e1tica en la arquitectura moderna (purismo y le corbusier; expresionismo y b. Taut; neoplasticismo y g.T. Rietveld) y postmoderna (nuevas utop\u00edas, racionalismo iluminista, postmodernidad figurativa y deconstrucci\u00f3n).  \tlos mecanismos crom\u00e1ticos son las estrategias pl\u00e1sticas que el color permite. Se deducen tres estrategias fundamentales: el color para interferir en la percepci\u00f3n de las propiedades visuales de la forma (su geometr\u00eda, dimensiones, peso visual o textura), para interferir en la descripci\u00f3n del objeto arquitect\u00f3nico (composici\u00f3n y funci\u00f3n), y el color por su valor intr\u00ednseco. \tlas motivaciones son las intenciones manifestadas por los arquitectos que responde a dos motivaciones principales: disponer un colorido vers\u00e1til y manifestar la libertad creativa del autor. La versatilidad se refiere a un cambio en el aspecto de la arquitectura (transformaci\u00f3n crom\u00e1tica); en su integridad (fragmentaci\u00f3n crom\u00e1tica); en su posici\u00f3n (movimiento crom\u00e1tico); o en la tecnolog\u00eda (novedad crom\u00e1tica). La libertad creativa se expresa mediante el <<hedonismo crom\u00e1tico>>, la transgresi\u00f3n de los principios compositivos modernos y otras provocaciones.  \tse concluye que el color en la arquitectura contempor\u00e1nea europea evoluciona hacia su versatilidad y persigue una expresi\u00f3n m\u00e1s libre, algo que ha sido posible gracias al progreso tecnol\u00f3gico. Parad\u00f3jicamente, el color en la arquitectura ha recuperado protagonismo sin transgredir la voluntad ruskiniana de expresar la <<verdad material>>, al quedar obsoletos conceptos antiguamente
