Mediante la ovariectom\u00eda y la restricci\u00f3n energ\u00e9tica en rata conduce a la p\u00e9rdida del hueso trabecular de los huesos largos compatible con un modelo animal de la enfermedad degenerativa del esqueleto humano conocida como osteoporosis. La administraci\u00f3n de mscs no caus\u00f3 rechazo en los animales trasplantados y el rastro de las c\u00e9lulas trasplantadas se pierde en cuatro semanas. Los animales osteopor\u00f3ticos tratados con las rmscs recuperaron la formaci\u00f3n de trab\u00e9culas \u00f3seas y los resultados obtenidos sugieren que la reparaci\u00f3n \u00f3sea es el resultado de los factores liberados por las c\u00e9lulas mscs trasplantadas. La valoraci\u00f3n esterol\u00f3gica de las trab\u00e9culas muestra que las mscs estimulan la reparaci\u00f3n de las trab\u00e9culas epifisarias y metafisarias aumentando la longitud y anchura as\u00ed como disminuyendo la distancia entre ellas. Las bases celulares de la reparaci\u00f3n \u00f3sea han sido estudiadas en hmscs y mostramos que la prolactina y los estr\u00f3genoss son sistemas reguladores autocrinos y paracrinos que operan en la expansi\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas progenitoras de hueso y en la diferenciaci\u00f3n ostecondral. Los resultados muestran la modulaci\u00f3n por ambos ejes de la distribuci\u00f3n subcelular de los factores retranscripci\u00f3n stat1, stat3 y stat5 y el receptor de estr\u00f3genos. Los glucocorticoides realizan una modulaci\u00f3n dominante y antag\u00f3nica a la acci\u00f3n de los estr\u00f3genos.
