Los modelos desarrollados son cinematicos, es decir, la deformacion se impone a traves de un campo de velocidad predefinido y se calcula la evolucion termica de la litosfera. Se introduce un metodo para comprobar si la deformacion impuesta es valida desde el punto de vista dinamico. Se calcula la resistencia litosferica durante la etapa de extension (sinrift) y se comprueba si las zonas de menor resistencia coinciden con las zonas de deformacion. Asimismo, este metodo permite acotar las condiciones para la formacion de rifts anchos y estrechos, tanto en procesos de extension continua como episodica. Se obtiene que los rifts anchos se forman preferentemente con tasas de deformacion bajas, en zonas con litosfera caliente y espesor cortical elevado.  ademas, se desarrolla un modelo de extension no uniforme con acomodacion lateral de la extension que permite explicar el engrosamiento cortical y la topografia elevada y permanente de los flancos de numerosos rifts.  finalmente, se hace una aplicacion practica del modelo de la evolucion geodinamica del surco de Valencia.
