El sistema hormona de crecimiento &#8211; factor de crecimiento tipo insulina-1 (gh &#8211; igf-1), adem\u00e1s de ser clave en diversos procesos metab\u00f3licos, posee m\u00faltiples e importantes efectos tr\u00f3ficos, en relaci\u00f3n a la proliferaci\u00f3n y protecci\u00f3n celular, en el sistema nervioso central, el sistema nervioso perif\u00e9rico y el tejido muscular esquel\u00e9tico. En la actualidad, diferentes lesiones y enfermedades neurol\u00f3gicas no poseen todav\u00eda tratamiento eficaz conocido. En los estudios inclu\u00eddos en esta tesis doctoral demostramos, por vez primera, la utilidad del tratamiento combinado mediante gh y fisioterapia en la rehabilitaci\u00f3n de diferentes pacientes con afectaciones neurol\u00f3gicas tales como la par\u00e1lisis de pares craneales de origen central, la amaurosis bilateral, la lesi\u00f3n medular y la atrofia muscular espinal. Los resultados que hemos obtenido podr\u00edan ser inducidos tanto por los efectos directos de gh, como por aquellos mediados por igf-1 y\/o por otros factores tr\u00f3ficos inducidos por gh y\/o a trav\u00e9s del tejido muscular esquel\u00e9tico. Nuevos y mayores ensayos cl\u00ednicos podr\u00edan aproximarnos al mejor conocimiento de los efectos de gh en la rehabilitaci\u00f3n de lesiones y enfermedades
