La geometr\u00eda del flujo a gran escala es toroidal: los granos pr\u00f3ximos a la pared lateral del recipiente se mueven hacia abajo y ascienden cerca del centro, siendo el movimiento radial en la base y en la superficie. Se ha caracterizado la din\u00e1mica del centro de masas midiendo el tiempo de vuelo, que es el cociente entre el tiempo que la capa est\u00e1 en vuelo libre dividido entre el per\u00edodo de la excitaci\u00f3n. Se ha elaborado un modelo capaz de reproducir adecuadamente los resultados. Tambi\u00e9n se han obtenido las trayectorias resueltas en el tiempo de las part\u00edculas pr\u00f3ximas a la pared lateral. Se concluy\u00f3 que la fricci\u00f3n entre los granos y la pared lateral son la causa del movimiento convectivo. El estudio detallado de estas trayectorias pone de manifiesto que los distintos estratos del medio muestran un movimiento diferencial dentro de la capa granular. Se han encontrado pruebas de un pulso de compresi\u00f3n que recorre el medio.
