Las estrategias de control basadas en el modo continuo permiten un control preciso y sencillo de la potencia suministrada en cada carga, mientras que las estrategias de control basadas en el modo discontinuo permiten incrementar el rendimiento de la etapa.  se ha implementado una arquitectura de control system on programmable chip que combina la versatilidad del hardware digital con la reprogramabilidad del software.
