El entender c\u00f3mo regeneran algunas especies deber\u00eda ayudarnos a desarrollar estrat\u00e9gias para aumentar la capacidad de regeneraci\u00f3n en humanos. Aqu\u00ed, mediande un sistema cre\/lox de trazado gen\u00e9tico de linage, mostramos que la creaci\u00f3n de nuevos cardiomicitios proviene de la proliferaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas card\u00edacas diferenciadas. Estos resultados discrepan con una contribuci\u00f3n significativa de c\u00e9lulas madre o progenitoras en este proceso. Los datos obtenidos de microarray y de microscopia electr\u00f3nica evidencian que la proliferaci\u00f3n de cardiomiocitos es debida a una dediferenciaci\u00f3n parcial y a un incremento de la expresi\u00f3n de genes que promueven el ciclo celular. Uno de \u00e9stos, el polo-like kinase 1 (plk1), aumenta en expresi\u00f3n en el \u00e1rea regenerando del coraz\u00f3n de pez cebra y, una vez inhibida su actividad, mostramos que es esencial para la regeneraci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n hemos identificado una serie adicional de transcritos que se expresan de manera diferencial durante la regeneraci\u00f3n card\u00edaca en el pez cebra y que merecen m\u00e1s investigaci\u00f3n. Los resultados aqu\u00ed presentes profundizan en la comprensi\u00f3n de la regeneraci\u00f3n card\u00edaca en el pez cebra y ofrecen informaci\u00f3n relevante para la terapia card\u00edaca en
