En estos ecosistemas, al igual que en los humedales naturales, se combina un entramado complejo de procesos f\u00edsicos, qu\u00edmicos y biol\u00f3gicos por medio de los cuales se produce la depuraci\u00f3n del agua.  en este trabajo se presenta un estudio del funcionamiento de estos ecosistemas artificiales en cuanto a su capacidad para eliminar de la columna de agua metales pesados. As\u00ed mismo, se profundiza en el papel desempe\u00f1ado por las bacterias en los distintos procesos por medio de los cuales se alcanza la depuraci\u00f3n del agua residual.
