Estudios previos han mostrado que las gotas lip\u00eddicas presentan una gran variedad de prote\u00ednas asociadas a su superficie. Una de estas prote\u00ednas es rab18, un miembro de la familia de gtpasas de bajo peso molecular rab, para la que se ha sugerido que participa en el control de la movilizaci\u00f3n de l\u00edpidos de gotas lip\u00eddicas. Sin embargo, la funci\u00f3n espec\u00edfica de esta prote\u00edna en relaci\u00f3n a la homeostasis lip\u00eddica en adipocitos a\u00fan se desconoce. En este sentido, el objetivo general de la tesis consiste en ampliar el conocimiento acerca de la regulaci\u00f3n y funci\u00f3n que ejerce la prote\u00edna rab18 en adipocitos en condiciones pato-fisiol\u00f3gicas.  \tlos resultados principales obtenidos en el presente estudio son los siguientes: la obesidad y el ayuno alteran la expresi\u00f3n de rab18 en tejido adiposo en modelos animales. Asimismo, la expresi\u00f3n de rab18 tambi\u00e9n se ve modificada en humanos obesos, con resistencia a insulina y con diabetes mellitus de tipo ii. la expresi\u00f3n de rab18 en adipocitos est\u00e1 regulada por hormonas hipofisarias, por tsh directamente o a trav\u00e9s de la acci\u00f3n de las hormonas tiroideas en el tejido adiposo.  la expresi\u00f3n de rab18 en adipocitos 3t3-l1 est\u00e1 regulada por catecolaminas e insulina, estimuladores de lip\u00f3lisis y lipog\u00e9nesis, respectivamente. Adem\u00e1s, ambas sustancias incrementan la localizaci\u00f3n de rab18 alrededor de las gotas lip\u00eddicas y la colocalizaci\u00f3n de rab18 con marcadores de ret\u00edculo endoplasm\u00e1tico y de otras prote\u00ednas de la cubierta de la gota lip\u00eddica. la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de rab18 en 3t3-l1 aumenta el tama\u00f1o de las gotas lip\u00eddicas y la actividad lipol\u00edtica y lipog\u00e9nica basal en dichas c\u00e9lulas. Por otra parte, el silenciamiento de esta gtpasa bloquea la respuesta a catecolaminas e insulina.  en conclusi\u00f3n, los resultados anteriores sugieren que rab18 participa de forma activa en la regulaci\u00f3n del metabolismo lip\u00eddico en adipocitos, lo que es interesante en la b\u00fasqueda de nuevas dianas terap\u00e9uticas para combatir la obesidad y las enfermedades
