La soluci\u00f3n que se propone se basa en evaluar la rugosidad de la superficie, analizando la textura presente en las im\u00e1genes digitales obtenidas. En la fase experimental se han realizado operaciones de cilindrado utilizando tres aleaciones met\u00e1licas: aisi 321, aisi 304cu y aisi 6150. Para la realizaci\u00f3n de los ensayos se han aplicado t\u00e9cnicas de dise\u00f1o de experimentos y se ha trabajado con valores de los par\u00e1metros de operaci\u00f3n y rugosidad t\u00edpicos en la pr\u00e1ctica industrial. Se han tomado un n\u00famero de im\u00e1genes suficientemente elevado para asegurar la fiabilidad de los resultados. Para clasificar las im\u00e1genes en funci\u00f3n de su rugosidad se ha propuesto un nuevo descriptor basado en el kernel r5r5 de laws, realizando una convoluci\u00f3n en dos pasos. Los descriptores as\u00ed obtenidos han permitido clasificar la rugosidad de las piezas en distintas clases de acuerdo a la norma une 1037:1983. Las tasas de acierto en la clasificaci\u00f3n de las im\u00e1genes est\u00e1n comprendidas entre un 97%, en el peor de los casos al utilizar an\u00e1lisis discriminante y un 99,11% mediante k-nn.
