Los estudios han sido realizados \u00abin vivo\u00bb sobre ratas wistar macho anestesiadas con 40 mg\/kg de pentobarbital sodico, e \u00abin vitro\u00bb en un sistema de perfusion de celulas hipofisarias adheridas a microtrasportadores que en determinados experimentos se conecto a un sistema de perfusion de cultivos organotipico de hipotalamos. La influencia que la somatostatina (srih) (1    ), asi como la beta-endorfina (10  ) pueden tener sobre este modelo experimental han sido igualmente determinadas. De los resultados destacan, la aparicion de desensibilizacion parcial de las celulas somatotropas de animales tratados tras una dosis minima efectiva de ghrh (250 ng\/kg), asi como la aparicion de desensibilizacion total tras cuatro dosis de ghrh administradas a intervalos de tres horas. \u00abIn vitro\u00bb la desensibilizacion es precoz (5 minutos) y mantenida cuando se perfunden 5nm de ghrh. La srih asi como la beta-endorfina administradas precozmente junto al ghrh pueden prevenir la desensibilizacion parcial de las celulas somatotropas, pero no pueden revertir si se administran tardiamente cuando esta ya se ha establecido.  la beta-endorfina, parece actuar a traves del incremento endogeno de la liberacion de srih, lo que determina sus efectos sobre la secrecion de gh. Ambos peptidos actuan sobre la celula somatotropa incrementando la densidad de superficie del reticulo endoplasmico rugoso, lo que traduce un incremento en la sintesis hormonal, cuando estos se
