Tiene una fractura concoidea, caracter\u00edstica de los s\u00f3lidos no cristalinos en los flujos solidificados de lava. El vidrio natural se forma cuando la lava rica en sio2 se enfr\u00eda r\u00e1pidamente. Este vidrio volc\u00e1nico fundido, es maleable a alta temperatura. En fr\u00edo, puede ser tallado, y en caliente en estado fluido, colado y moldeado.   la obsidiana artificial (o.A.) Es el vidrio que obtenemos de forma artificial a base de combinar el lapilli volc\u00e1nico (piroclasto de ca\u00edda) con materiales (vitrificantes y fundentes) que bajen su punto de fusi\u00f3n y produzcan una vitrificaci\u00f3n adecuada.  las formaciones rocosas, las reducimos y tamizamos al m\u00e1ximo hasta reducirlas a polvo para poder mezclarla en seco de la forma m\u00e1s sencilla con los dem\u00e1s componentes. Una vez hallada la proporci\u00f3n adecuada para la composici\u00f3n, se introduce la mezcla en un crisol y se funde en un horno de gas.  la preparaci\u00f3n de la o.A. Es la de un vidrio que se obtiene mezclando por v\u00eda l\u00edquida sus distintos componentes hasta obtener una disoluci\u00f3n homog\u00e9nea a nivel molecular.   cuando la viscosidad de la mezcla llega al punto de poder verterse sin dificultad, la traspasamos a un molde y \u00e9ste se introduce en un horno el\u00e9ctrico donde comenzar\u00e1 la fase de recocido para llevar a cabo la curva de
