Por último, se incluyen algunos ejemplos de aplicación de ambos modelos. abstract the aim of this study is to deepen in the knowledge of the pinus halepensis mill. Natural stands in the ebro medium valley (northeaster spain). Some necessary tools are established for a suitable forest management. These tools will be useful for the management projects to be developed in that stands, in order to reach the main objective: guaranteeing their persistence by natural regeneration, without forest fire occurring, and using the new available forest methods. In the other hand, they will help to achieve the second and third specific objectives established. These are the maintenance – and the increasing – of the maximum of utilities and obtaining a sustained yield that allows the implementation of the required forestry without public external investment on the forest. the study area is divided into two wide areas of natural forest of pinus halepensis, called respectively «grupo de montes de zuera and castejón de valdejasa» and «sierra de alcubierre». Both zones are included inside the ebro medium valley located in the huesca and zaragoza provinces and occupying a total of circa 40.000 hectares. firstly, a shallow review of the botanical, ecological and silvics of the species has been carried out. More precisely, and focussing in the study area, the more relevant aspects have been considered like the forest fires occurrence. data analyzed come from a forest inventory carried out in 924 plots, in 2001, and from 111 selected trees cut in 2004. as an essential tool for establishing the bases of a suitable forestry in this area, a generalized relationship height-diameter has been obtained. The sloboda et al. (1993) model was the most appropriate. Furthermore, the weibull function modelled very accurately the diameter distribution. Also, the exponential model from riemer et al. (1995) has been selected as the most suitable function to define the stem taper function and the merchantable volume equation with products classification. Analyses have been carried out for the global data and separately by zones (alcubierre and zuera) in order to check the possible differences existing between the two studied areas. on the other hand, a site index model has been developed for the study area and it has been compared with other present site index curves for the species. The selected model for characterizing the quality has been the hossfeld iv (in kiviste et al., 2002). Moreover, only three quality curves (6, 10 and 14 m at 60 years) were enough for classifying all the studied area due to the low production of these woods. finally, after obtaining the above equations relating several individual tree and stand variables, and even though all of them have direct application in forest management, some compiling models have been carried out for combining all them and for fostering the practical implementation of them. A stand density management diagram and a static model of growth by diameter classes have been made as well. The stand density management diagram is a very easy and practical tool for the management and thinning planning based on stand density, allowing quick estimations even in field. The static model of growth by diameter classes offers more elaborated data, providing the estimation of the volume from different classified products and the diameter distribution. Both tools are considered complementary being the first one more agile and fast and the second more elaborated. lastly, some practical examples of both models are included.
