Actualmente, la \u00fanica cascada de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n fisiol\u00f3gica controlada por no consiste en la activaci\u00f3n de la guanilato ciclasa. En esta tesis proponemos una ruta alternativa que incluye la fosforilaci\u00f3n de eif2alpha por la heme-regulated eukaryotic factor-2alpha kinase (hri). Hemos mostrado como la enzima bace1, una prote\u00edna clave en la enfermedad de alzheimer (ad), es controlada por esta nueva cascada de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n, que podr\u00eda estar involucrada en la fisiolog\u00eda del aprendizaje y la memoria. Tambi\u00e9n hemos estudiado como un factor de estr\u00e9s externo, el herpes simplex virus 1, puede perturbar esta cascada dando lugar a incrementos patol\u00f3gicos en bace1 y p\u00e9ptido beta-amiloideo (a\u00edY). El a\u00edY agrega formando fibrillas que generan radicales libres. Estos reaccionan qu\u00edmicamente con el no produciendo peroxinitrito, que contribuye a la progresi\u00f3n del ad.
