Se encuentran interpuestos entre los c\u00f3ndilos femorales y las superficies tibiales. Aumentan la superficie de las cavidades gleno\u00eddeas, compensando la discordancia articular. El menisco es un componente de la articulaci\u00f3n de la rodilla dise\u00f1ado para transmitir solicitaciones sin que se produzcan da\u00f1os y participa en la distribuci\u00f3n de las mismas, la estabilidad articular, la absorci\u00f3n de los impactos y la lubricaci\u00f3n articular, aumentando la congruencia articular y, por lo tanto, protegiendo al cart\u00edlago. El menisco interno cubre aproximadamente entre el 50-70% de la superficie del platillo tibial, y el externo entre el 75-90% de la superficie tibial externa  los meniscos se lesionan f\u00e1cilmente y, sin embargo, reparan con mucha dificultad. Podemos encontrar una rotura meniscal en m\u00e1s del 65% de individuos. Las dos zonas del menisco, la vascular o roja y la avascular o blanca, tienen un comportamiento diferente en su reparaci\u00f3n y tambi\u00e9n sus c\u00e9lulas tienen una morfolog\u00eda distinta y expresan factores diferentes. 2. Los factores de crecimiento act\u00faan de manera diferente en cada regi\u00f3n meniscal. La bmp-7, al igual que la mmp-2, s\u00f3lo aumentan los factores de transcripci\u00f3n en las c\u00e9lulas de la sinovial. 3. El col\u00e1geno i aumenta su expresi\u00f3n en las c\u00e9lulas de la regi\u00f3n avascular, siendo igf y bfgf los que tienen un mayor efecto.  \tel tratamiento de las c\u00e9lulas tanto de la regi\u00f3n vascular como avascular con bmp-7 induce un aumento de la expresi\u00f3n de col\u00e1geno de tipo ii. \ttras estimulo con bfgf aumenta la expresi\u00f3n de agrecano en las c\u00e9lulas de la regi\u00f3n sinovial.
