La primera parte: compuestos farmacologicamente activos de origen natural consistio en el estudio de los componentes activos de dos plantas iberoamericanas y de una esponja marina. La planta hedyosmum bonplandianum dio tras el estudio de los componentes polares el aislamiento de dos glicosidos flavonoides responsables de la actividad analgesica de esta planta. De la planta mitraria coccinea se aislaron de los extractos polares cinco nuevos glicosidos diterpenos cuya estructura constituye el primer ejemplo de c-15, c-19 diglicosidos tipo labdano; tambien se aislaron dos glicosidos fenilpropanicos. De la esponja xestospongia sp. Se aislaron de los extractos poco polares cuatro nuevos esteroides que presentan en su cadena lateral un atipico ciclopropano 1,2-disustituido.  la segunda parte de este trabajo: compuestos farmacologicamente activos de origen sintetico consistio en la preparacion de las cularinas: 7-metoxicularina, 7-hidroxicularina, 6-bromo-7-hidroxicularina, 6,7-dimetoxicularina, 6,7-dihidroxicularina y de la 4&#8243;, 5&#8243;-dihidroxicularina.
