La identificacion de objetos se lleva a cabo mediante procedimientos de clasificacion en un conjunto de clases. Aunque estos formalismos son unicamente aplicables a objetos aislados, existe interes en relacionar la capacidad de discriminacion de cada representacion y de cada clasificador con las caracteristicas geometricas de los objetos a identificar.  los objetivos en este planteamiento son determinar la representacion y el procedimiento neuronal de clasificacion que proporcionen resultados optimos, invariantes ante transformaciones de similitud y robustos para problemas de discriminacion entre objetos que difieren entre si por propiedades geometricas sencillas.  por otra parte, el planteamiento sintactico requiere que se defina un lenguaje en terminos de un conjunto de simbolos y de una produccion (reglas sintacticas y semanticas). En este campo los objetivos se centraron en definir una particion del contorno que permita describirlo por la superposicion de un numero minimo de figuras simples (poligonales y elipticas). Para ello se comprueba la existencia de un lenguaje de contexto libre con el que es posible describir una posible superposicion de objetos o dise\u00f1ar un procedimiento de
