Esta pregunta fundamental no ha sido respondida satisfactoriamente todav\u00eda. Las \u00faltimas hip\u00f3tesis biol\u00f3gicas apuntan al desarrollo, el proceso de crecimiento que transforma una sola c\u00e9lula en un organismo completo, y su regulaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica como componentes claves en la evoluci\u00f3n de la diversidad. Igualmente, en el campo de la computaci\u00f3n evolutiva se est\u00e1 empezando a reconocer la importancia del m\u00e9todo de codificaci\u00f3n de los individuos, el cual es una abstracci\u00f3n del proceso de desarrollo biol\u00f3gico. Por tanto, hay una convergencia substancial en la interfaz entre biolog\u00eda e inform\u00e1tica, de donde pueden beneficiarse las dos disciplinas. Esta tesis est\u00e1 enmarcada en dicha interfaz. esta tesis investiga el rol, implicaciones y aplicaciones de un proceso de desarrollo regulado gen\u00e9ticamente en un contexto evolutivo. El novedoso formalismo de las gram\u00e1ticas de grafos reguladas por cadenas, el cual abstrae el desarrollo biol\u00f3gico, es presentado y estudiado desde el punto de vista de los lenguajes formales. Fundado en este formalismo, se presentan y estudian modelos de desarrollo evolutivo. Los resultados demuestran las ventajas de los modelos, comparados con los m\u00e9todos tradicionales de codificaci\u00f3n directa, para los problemas de b\u00fasqueda de formas y b\u00fasqueda de comportamientos. Dichas ventajas incluyen alta diversidad, regularidad, organicidad y modularidad; propiedades altamente valiosas en un contexto de ingenier\u00eda. Adicionalmente, estos modelos computacionales han sido empleados para investigar los or\u00edgenes evolutivos de la novedad y la diversidad, responsables de la extraordinaria biodiversidad de nuestro planeta. Los resultados te\u00f3ricos obtenidos respaldan las \u00faltimas hip\u00f3tesis biol\u00f3gicas, sugiriendo que la sola variaci\u00f3n de la regulaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica es efectivamente una condici\u00f3n suficiente para la emergencia evolutiva de la innovaci\u00f3n y la diversidad. Finalmente, ya que la evoluci\u00f3n natural es un gran ejemplo de un enorme proceso creativo, los modelos de desarrollo evolutivo presentados son tambi\u00e9n especialmente adecuados para aplicaciones de creatividad computacional. En particular, los modelos han sido aplicados en una metodolog\u00eda novedosa para la animaci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tica de personajes de gr\u00e1ficos por ordenador. en resumen, los resultados presentados en esta tesis son verdaderamente interdisciplinares, representado contribuciones en los campos de lenguajes formales, computaci\u00f3n evolutiva, biolog\u00eda evolutiva, optimizaci\u00f3n
