Se ha demostrado que el genoma del virus codifica para, al menos, 10 productos primarios de traduccion, de los cuales 2 son proteinas no estructurales, y se ha identificado el gen que codifica para cada proteina. Se han investigado las modificaciones post-traduccionales sufridas por estos productos primarios: la proteina nub se escinde proteoliticamente en dos polipeptidos, y ademas se encuentra miristilado.  todas las proteinas virales, menos sigmaa y posiblemente lambdab, son glicoproteinas y ninguna proteina viral incorpora fosforo.  propiedades de las proteinas virales: las proteinas nubc-sigmab estan asociadas en la capside externa viral.  la proteina sigmans tiene afinidad por particulas virales y arn de cadena sencilla. La proteina nuns tiene afinidad por el citoesqueleto celular.
