Este hecho suscita gran inter\u00e9s en la industria de las fermentaciones; tambi\u00e9n en la agricultura, dado el creciente problema de salinidad de los suelos. Los resultados obtenidos a trav\u00e9s de la utilizaci\u00f3n de t\u00e9cnicas bioqu\u00edmicas y de biolog\u00eda molecular demuestran que en situaciones de estr\u00e9s, las c\u00e9lulas de levadura ajustan sus niveles de ergosterol a trav\u00e9s de la activaci\u00f3n de una compleja cascada de regulaci\u00f3n transcripcional. Este descubrimiento ha revelado nuevos datos que ayudan a entender mejor la homeostasis de esteroles. Este proceso es fisiol\u00f3gicamente similar al que ocurre en c\u00e9lulas de mam\u00edferos, donde es fundamental mantener los l\u00edpidos a niveles \u00f3ptimos, ya que alteraciones en los mismos pueden dar lugar a enfermedades como la obesidad, diabetes tipo 2 o arterioesclerosis. Por otra parte, muchas infecciones f\u00fangicas en individuos inmunodeprimidos se tratan mediante el empleo de drogas que act\u00faan sobre enzimas de la ruta de bios\u00edntesis de ergosterol, lo que sostiene la relevancia del estudio de la regulaci\u00f3n de la s\u00edntesis de este l\u00edpido de membrana. Por \u00faltimo, el an\u00e1lisis gen\u00f3mico mediante ensayos chip-chip y chip-seq de algunos de los principales reguladores implicados en la compleja respuesta a estr\u00e9s osm\u00f3tico, aporta nueva informaci\u00f3n para comprender c\u00f3mo los organismos, a trav\u00e9s de la evoluci\u00f3n, han organizado diferentes -pero estrechamente vinculados- m\u00f3dulos de regulaci\u00f3n para
