En el primero, se presenta la motivaci\u00f3n y los objetivos fundamentales de este trabajo, as\u00ed como el estado del arte. El segundo esboza los fundamentos sobre propagaci\u00f3n de ondas electromagn\u00e9ticas, con \u00e9nfasis en el hielo glaciar como medio de aplicaci\u00f3n. El tercero analiza la estructura y criterios de dise\u00f1o de los georradares, especialmente los empleados en glaciolog\u00eda. el cap\u00edtulo 4 presenta un an\u00e1lisis detallado de la familia de gerradares virl, anteriores al desarrollado en esta tesis. La discusi\u00f3n pormenorizada de sus principios de funcionamiento ponen de manifiesto las mejoras al equipo que motivaron el dise\u00f1o y construcci\u00f3n de la nueva versi\u00f3n virl-7. La estructura, especificaciones y par\u00e1metros de funcionamiento de este nuevo equipo se presentan y discuten en el cap\u00edtulo 5. El cap\u00edtulo 6 recoge las pruebas de laboratorio y de campo llevadas a cabo con virl7. El glaciar seleccionado para las pruebas de campo fue tavlebreen, en la isla spitsbergen (archipi\u00e9lago de svalbard, \u00e1rtico). el cap\u00edtulo 7 se centra en la aplicaci\u00f3n del conjunto de georradares virl (en ocasiones combinada con georradares comerciales ramac\/gpr) al estudio de glaciares tanto ant\u00e1rticos (en isla livingston, islas shetland del sur) como \u00e1rticos (isla
