Isabel <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El higado es la mayor glandula del cuerpo y posee una gran capacidad funcional. Las enfermedades cronicas del higado tienen un gran impacto metabolico. La cirrosis hepatica es una de las principales causas de muerte en muchos paises. Numerosos autores han utilizado la tioacetamina (taa) como droga modelo para el estudio de disfunciones hepaticas; la cirrosis nodular producida por la administracion cronica de este toxico es comparable a la cirrosis humana de etiolog\u00eda alcoholica.  frecuentemente, los pacientes cirroticos presentan procesos de malnutricion asociados a la enfermedad. Un aporte adecuado de nutrientes en cirrosis esta indicado para corregir la malnutricion y evitar el aumento de la mortalidad. Concretamente, en cirrosis las alteracions en los niveles plasmaticos y tisulares de los acidos grasos poliinsaturados (agpi) de las series n-3 y n-6, afectan a la estructura y fluidez de las membranas y por tanto a la actividad de varios tipos celulares, entre ellos los hepatocitos. Por esta razon, analizamos a nivel histologico los efectos de la suplementacion de agpi a la dieta sobre las alteraciones hepaticas producidas por la administracion de taa. Para ello, ratas hembras de la raza wistar tras cuatro meses de administracion oral de taa, se recuperaron con dietas enriquecidas con agpi de la serie n-3 y con agpi de las series n-3 y n-6 durante una y dos semanas. Terminados los periodos experimentales, tomamos muestras de higados de los animales y los analizamos a microscopia optica y electronica de transmision.  a la vista de nuestros resultados, las dietas suplementadas con agpi no ayudaron a la recuperacion de las alteraciones histologicas producidas por la administracion cronica del hepatotoxico, sobre todo cuando utilizamos la mezcla de agpi de las dos series.
