La estructura de datos tiene forma de \u00e1rbol y codifica las componentes conexas de los conjuntos de nivel de la imagen.  Esta estructura es la herramienta b\u00e1sica para muchas aplicaciones propuestas: operadores morfol\u00f3gicos tridimensionales, visualizaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes m\u00e9dicas, an\u00e1lisis de histogramas de color, seguimiento de objetos en v\u00eddeo y detecci\u00f3n de contornos.  Motivada por el problema de la completaci\u00f3n de contornos, la tesis contiene un estudio de c\u00f3mo la eliminaci\u00f3n de ruido mediante variaci\u00f3n total anisotr\u00f3pica se puede utilizar para calcular conjuntos de cheeger en m\u00e9tricas anis\u00f3tropicas.  Estos conjuntos de cheeger anisotr\u00f3picos se pueden utilizar para encontrar \u00f3ptimos globales de algunos funcionales de completaci\u00f3n de contornos.
