El origen de estas dificultades tiene dos vertientes. Por un lado, el hecho de que la cinem\u00e1tica de los fluidos se describe habitualmente y de manera natural en un marco euleriano. Pero este tipo de descripci\u00f3n no es, en modo alguno, la m\u00e1s apropiada para describir el movimiento de la superficie libre, que aceptar\u00eda de un modo mucho m\u00e1s natural una descripci\u00f3n lagrangiana.  por otro lado, si se escoge una descripci\u00f3n lagrangiana, las t\u00e9cnicas num\u00e9ricas m\u00e1s extendidas (ele-men-tos finitos, diferencias finitas o vol\u00famenes finitos, entre otros), se vuelven extremadamente complejos en su aplicaci\u00f3n a las ecuaciones resultantes de navier-stokes.  en esta tesis de plantea una aproximaci\u00f3n al problema de navier-stokes con superficie libre completamente diferente. Se han escogido los m\u00e9todos sin malla, y m\u00e1s concretamente, el m\u00e9todo de los elementos naturales, para realizar la simulaci\u00f3n. \u00e9ste \u00faltimo se ha escogido por sus peculiares caracter\u00edsticas, entre las cuales cabe citar la imposici\u00f3n exacta de condiciones de contorno esenciales, su capacidad de desarrollar aproximaciones de alto orden y su estrecho lazo con la estructura geom\u00e9trica que se ha escogido para la descripci\u00f3n del movimiento de la superficie libre.  en esta tesis se ha desarrollado un m\u00e9todo de lagrange-galerkin de vecindad natural de segundo orden en el tiempo, que ha mostrado excelentes resultados en problemas en los que intentos previos han fallado. Adem\u00e1s se ha desarrollado un constructor de formas para la extracci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tica de la geometr\u00eda del dominio conforme \u00e9sta evoluciona en el tiempo. El m\u00e9todo desarrollado se basa en la t\u00e9cnica de formas $alpha$, pero se han a\u00f1adido dos filtrados adicionales que hacen que m\u00e9todo sea mucho m\u00e1s robusto y menos sensible a la elecci\u00f3n de los par\u00e1metros.  finalmente, el m\u00e9todo reci\u00e9n desarrollado se ha aplicado a un problema especialmente complicado como es el del jet de worthington y, en general, a los
