Se prest\u00f3 entonces especial atenci\u00f3n al desarrollo de fuentes alternativas de combustible, centr\u00e1ndose principalmente en el uso de alcoholes y biocombustibles procedentes de cultivos oleaginosos. El uso de etanol mezclado con gasoil comenz\u00f3  a estudiarse en los a\u00f1os 80 y se lleg\u00f3 a la conclusi\u00f3n que las mezclas de etanol-gasoil eran t\u00e9cnicamente aceptables para su utilizaci\u00f3n en los motores diesel existentes, pero el relativamente alto coste de producci\u00f3n de etanol en aquella \u00e9poca hizo que el uso de esta mezcla fuera viable s\u00f3lo en \u00e9pocas de escasez. Con este trabajo se pretende experimentar las mezclas gasoil-etanol para conseguir reducir las emisiones contaminantes, mejorar las propiedades del combustible y determinar el punto \u00f3ptimo de inyecci\u00f3n que consiga mantener en un rango aceptable las prestaciones del motor. El trabajo muestra que las mezclas de etanol con gasoil no modifican de forma considerable las prestaciones del diesel y sin embargo introducen problemas de estabilidad de la mezcla. Sin embargo, se demuestra como una mezcla de 15% de etanol con un 85% de biodiesel se puede posicionar como un combustible alternativo completamente renovable, que no presenta problemas de estabilidad
