La mol\u00e9cula inhibidora de quinasas dependientes de ciclinas (cki) p21 es un inhibidor de ciclo celular pero se le han atribuido, adem\u00e1s, funciones de regulador de la transcripci\u00f3n por lo que sus acciones sobre nscs pueden ser pleiotr\u00f3picas. La cki p21 regula positivamente la auto-renovaci\u00f3n y persistencia de las nscs y sus acciones son dependientes del tipo de estimulaci\u00f3n mitog\u00e9nica. Adem\u00e1s tiene funciones independientes de la regulaci\u00f3n del ciclo celular en nscs, como es la regulaci\u00f3n negativa de la transcripci\u00f3n del gen bmp2. En el presente trabajo, hemos observado que las bmps regulan la auto-renovaci\u00f3n de las nscs dependiendo del mit\u00f3geno y favorecen su diferenciaci\u00f3n astrocitaria terminal.  Adem\u00e1s, de forma novedosa, el supresor de tumores p53 regula la auto-renovaci\u00f3n y multipotencia de las nscs de forma diferente a su diana efectora p21. En adici\u00f3n, la regulaci\u00f3n transcripcional del gen cdkn1a en las nscs est\u00e1 bajo el control de la v\u00eda de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de notch. Finalmente, hemos observado que el balance entre la activaci\u00f3n de notch, el regulador intr\u00ednseco p21 y las se\u00f1ales paracrinas\/autocrinas de los bmps regula la auto-renovaci\u00f3n de
