Aunque los dispositivos utilizados para implementar fiber-to-the-home (fibra a casa), que reemplazan las soluciones tradicionales basadas en cable de cobre, est\u00e1n basadas a\u00fan en micro-\u00f3ptica, se puede prever una evoluci\u00f3n hacia integraci\u00f3n fot\u00f3nica. Todav\u00eda queda la pregunta acerca de los dise\u00f1os necesarios para este paso importante de integraci\u00f3n, que debe ser optimizado en t\u00e9rminos del desempe\u00f1o de transmisi\u00f3n, eficiencia energ\u00e9tica y costo con el fin de lograr todos los requerimientos de las redes fot\u00f3nicas de siguiente generaci\u00f3n.  como elemento m\u00e1s cr\u00edtico en las redes de acceso \u00f3pticas es el equipo en los clientes, este trabajo se centra en \u00e9ste. Los temes cubiertos abarcan una gama amplia e incluyen: el reciclado de longitudes de onda para transmisi\u00f3n de datos en full-d\u00faplex a trav\u00e9s de una sola frecuencia \u00f3ptica; la generaci\u00f3n de formatos de modulaci\u00f3n avanzados con moduladores semiconductores de bajo costo y factor peque\u00f1o de integraci\u00f3n; soporte de amplificaci\u00f3n \u00f3ptica a trav\u00e9s de t\u00e9cnicas de sembrado y el soporte de funcionalidades de capes superiores en la capa f\u00edsica.    despu\u00e9s de la prueba principal de las t\u00e9cnicas propuestas, se resaltan los beneficios, impedimentos y caminos de reemplazo hacia sistemas fot\u00f3nicos multifuncionales a trav\u00e9s de casos de estudio. Por su parte, los dise\u00f1os m\u00e1s representativos se profundizan m\u00e1s sobre todo por su posibilidad de ser integrados fot\u00f3nicamente.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de
