Sin embargo, los clones individuales mutantes lgl no forman tumoresno forman tumores cuando se encuentran rodeados de tejido silvestre, lo que sugiere la existencia de un mecanismo supresor de tumores que opera contra c\u00e9lulas mutantes que surgen en un tejido silvestre. Hemos investigado el potencial tumorig\u00e9nico de las c\u00e9lulas mutantes lgl mediante la generaci\u00f3n, en discos imaginales de ala, de compartimientos posteriores completamente mutantes para lgl, mientras que el compartimento anterior permanece silvestre y sirve como control. Tambi\u00e9n indujimos clones de diversas combinaciones gen\u00e9ticas de c\u00e9lulas lgl-\/- rodeadas por c\u00e9lulas de tipo salvaje.%&#038;\/Encontramos que, si bien los compartimentos lgl-\/-  pueden crecer indefinidamente, los clones lgl-\/-  son eliminados por un proceso similar a la competici\u00f3n celular (proceso que en drosophila se encarga de eliminar a c\u00e9lulas potencialmente peligrosas o peor adaptadas y que est\u00e1 involucrado en el mantenimiento de la homeostasis del tejido). Sin embargo, grandes clones de c\u00e9lulas lgl-\/-  pueden formar tumores si adquieren actividad constitutiva de la v\u00eda de ras (lgl-\/- uas-rasv12), que confiere a los clones lgl-\/-  una ventaja proliferativa  a trav\u00e9s de la inhibici\u00f3n de la v\u00eda de hippo. Estos clones degeneran en su inmensa mayor\u00eda en tumores neopl\u00e1sicos invasivos que llevan a la muerte de la larva.%&#038;\/Sin embargo, la mayor\u00eda de los clones peque\u00f1os lgl-\/- uas-rasv12 por lo general no forman tumores, ya que muchos de estos clones siguen siendo eliminados por competici\u00f3n celular a pesar de presentar una mayor tasa proliferativa que las c\u00e9lulas silvestres que le rodean. Los clones grandes lgl-\/- uas-rasv12 tambi\u00e9n son eliminados por competici\u00f3n celular sin embargo esta muerte se ve restringida a los bordes quedando el interior del tumor protegido, lo que permite que el tumor tenga probabilidades de degenerar en un tumor invasivo y causar la muerte de la larva. La formaci\u00f3n de un tumor requiere por tanto, la formaci\u00f3n de un microambiente que permita que las c\u00e9lulas mutantes puedan evadir la competici\u00f3n
