Se presenta una contextualizaci\u00f3n del autor a trav\u00e9s del estudio de la historia de irlanda y de la m\u00e1s reciente historia de irlanda del norte, as\u00ed como de la evoluci\u00f3n del teatro irland\u00e9s a lo largo del siglo xx. Se analizan los textos dram\u00e1ticos divididos en cuatro etapas, desde \u00abphiladelphia, here i come!\u00bb (1964) hasta \u00abgive me your answer, do!\u00bb (1997), haciendo uso de las perspectivas cr\u00edticas poscolonialistas, historicistas y antropol\u00f3gicas, e incluyendo la cr\u00edtica literaria en lengua inglesa que se ha publicado sobre el autor. En el \u00faltimo apartado se presenta la recepci\u00f3n del autor en espa\u00f1a, desde la primera obra traducida, \u00abtraduccions\u00bb (1984) hasta \u00abmolly sweeney\u00bb (2005).
