En el primer caso se comprobo que la union de dicha fimbria afectaba fundamentalmente a las actividades de membrana, produciendo una inhibicion de la actividad atpasa dependiente de magnesio que se correlaciono directamente con la union de k88. En enterocitos, la adhesion fimbrial produjo una activacion de la guanilato ciclasa asociada a membrana, que se tradujo en un incremento en el contenido de cgmp.  los estudios de identificacion y purificacion parcial de los receptores de k88 pusieron de manifiesto proteinas con mr de 67, 63 y 48 kda que actuaban de receptores de la fimbria en membranas de eritrocitos, mientras que en enterocitos los receptores con mayor afinidad fueron proteinas con mr de 70, 63 y 60 kda. En ambos tipos de celulas, la union de la fimbria k88 mostro cooperatividad positiva y fue mayor la afinidad de los receptores de enterocitos que de eritrocitos, mientras que la cooperatividad neta
