De entre ellas, la que tiene mayor aceptaci\u00f3n por su eficacia y compatibilidad con el hormig\u00f3n, es el nitrito s\u00f3dico. Se ha considerado el caso particular del hormig\u00f3n armado conteniendo iones cloruro: los cloruros provocan una corrosi\u00f3n localizada al romper puntualmente la capa de \u00f3xidos pasivantes. Los nitritos ejercen una acci\u00f3n competitiva contra estas roturas locales y reparan la capa pasivante manteniendo la integridad del acero.
