First of all, we deal with the subject of memory and its deterioration. Secondly, the matter of alcoholism and its neuropsychological effects as well as ethyl alcohol metabolism and alcohol mechanisms of action are examined. The most important brain regions affected by alcohol abuse and the diseases derived from it will be pointed out. And third and last, we consider the effects of long-term alcohol abuse on the processes of memory and cognition. the results of this work indicate that people belonging to ex-alcoholics (abstemious alcoholics) group, have more memory problems than those in the non-alcoholics group, as with the execution of free recall test. key words: alcohol consumption, memory deterioration, neuropsychological effects, alcohol abuse, alcoholism, ex-alcoholics (abstemious alcoholics),free recall test, damage brain.   deterioro de la memoria expl\u00edcita versus implicita asociada al alcoholismo  en este trabajo se eval\u00faan los posibles trastornos de la memoria vinculados directamente al consumo de alcohol. En primer lugar se trata el tema de la memoria y p\u00e9rdida de la misma. En segundo lugar se analiza el tema del alcoholismo, metabolismo del alcohol et\u00edlico, mecanismos de acci\u00f3n, y efectos neuropsicol\u00f3gicos del mismo. Se se\u00f1alan cu\u00e1les son las regiones cerebrales m\u00e1s importantes afectadas por dicho consumo y las enfermedades que produce. Y en tercer y \u00faltimo lugar se trata de ver cu\u00e1les son los efectos que el consumo de alcohol produce sobre los procesos de memoria y cognici\u00f3n. los resultados obtenidos en este trabajo indican que las personas que forman el grupo de ex -alcoh\u00f3licos, aquellos que fueron consumidores de alcohol durante a\u00f1os, presentan m\u00e1s problemas de memoria que los pertenecientes al grupo  de no-alcoh\u00f3licos, como ocurre por ejemplo en la realizaci\u00f3n de las pruebas de recuerdo libre.  palabras claves: alcohol, deterioro de la memoria, efectos neuropsicol\u00f3gicos,
