Se investigan las convergencias entre el teatro de la crueldad, propuesto por el franc\u00e9s antonin artaud, y la b\u00fasqueda paralela de arlt hacia la recuperaci\u00f3n de la verdadera esencia del arte dram\u00e1tico. Se procura fomentar cient\u00edficamente, y a trav\u00e9s de un estudio comparativo, la hasta nuestros d\u00edas apenas insinuada convergencia entre los dos proyectos teatrales. La estructura de la tesis est\u00e1 dividida en seis cap\u00edtulos y un \u00edndice onom\u00e1stico de los teatristas mencionados a lo largo de la investigaci\u00f3n. El primer cap\u00edtulo es te\u00f3rico y versa sobre la semiolog\u00eda teatral, imprescindible para la aproximaci\u00f3n a la po\u00e9tica de la crueldad que requiere la totalidad de los signos empleados sobre escena en pos de la verdadera comunicaci\u00f3n entre todos los part\u00edcipes en el acto teatral. El cap\u00edtulo ii presenta las innovaciones que aportaron las vanguardias teatrales hasta el momento en que artaud expuso su manifiesto que, junto con los apuntes biogr\u00e1ficos sobre el franc\u00e9s, se expone en el tercer cap\u00edtulo. En el siguiente apartado se estudia la evoluci\u00f3n de la dramaturgia rioplatense desde su independencia de espa\u00f1a hasta la aparici\u00f3n de roberto arlt en la escena argentina. El quinto cap\u00edtulo presenta la vida y obra del escritor argentino, mientras que en el \u00faltimo apartado se analizan las piezas m\u00e1s significativas de arlt donde se evidencia su versi\u00f3n de la crueldad. En las conclusiones se realiza una s\u00edntesis de estos dos proyectos teatrales, donde se exponen las afinidades, pero tambi\u00e9n las diferencias entre las dos versiones de la crueldad. La tesis se cierra con un ap\u00e9ndice bibliogr\u00e1fico donde figuran las obras que nos han servido de apoyatura a la hora de lanzar nuestra hip\u00f3tesis de
