El comportamiento de esta estructura en cuanto a la transmisi\u00f3n de luz es fuertemente dependiente de las propiedades opticas del medio externo a la estructura cuando la polarizacion del haz incidente es perpendicular a la estructura plana superpuesta. esta caracteristica les confiere la posibilidad de actuar como sensores de indice de refracci\u00f3n de ese medio externo.  el trabajo recoge la caracterizacion de este tipo de sensores para un amplio rango de indices de refracci\u00f3n, con vista a realizar una selecci\u00f3n de los parametros para la estructura de capas superpuestas de manera que pueda medirse el grado de salinidad del agua a partir de la relaci\u00f3n que existe con el indice de refracci\u00f3n.  finalmente, con una configuraci\u00f3n de sensor de salinidad operativa en el laboratorio, se dise\u00f1a y construye un prototipo de sensor compacto y autonomo denominado optodo, susceptible de ser empleado en medidas en condiciones reales.
