En esta tesis, se propone una operaci\u00f3n coordinada y descentralizada en la que se introduce la figura de un operador independiente, un coordinador regional de despacho, encargado de la coordinacion de los intercambios de potencia en las interconexiones.  se desarrollan algoritmos de optimizacion para mercados horarios de energia electrica en los que la coordinacion se lleva a cabo a traves de variables optimas duales asociadas a las restricciones de balance de potencia en los nudos frontera. Se consideran dos tipo de algoritmos :(i) metodos directos de punto interior en los que se toma ventaja de la estructura que presenta la matriz asociada al sistema de ecuaciones lineales en el metodo de newton, y (ii) metodos de descomposicion. Concretamente, se consideran los metodos de relajacion lagrangiana y lagrangiano aumentado relajado. Tambien se revisan diversos metodos para la actualizacion de los multiplicadores de la grnage y se propone la utilizacion del metodo de punto-interior\/plano-cortante. finalmente, los metodos de
