Identificaci\u00f3n de nuevos f\u00e1rmacos con actividad antitumoral.  esta tesis estudia el impacto del metabolismo lip\u00eddico sobre la viabilidad de c\u00e9lulas humanas de mieloma m\u00faltiple (mm) y busca nuevos f\u00e1rmacos con actividad antitumoral, que puedan ser empleados para el tratamiento de esta enfermedad. Utilizando l\u00edneas celulares (u266b1, nci-h929 y rpmi8226) y cultivos primarios de c\u00e9lulas de mieloma m\u00faltiple, se concluye que el colesterol de origen ex\u00f3geno ldl posee un efecto anti-apopt\u00f3tico en las c\u00e9lulas humanas de mm y que la inhibici\u00f3n del metabolismo de los \u00e1cidos grasos mediante el uso de etomoxir y orlistat disminuye la capacidad proliferativa de las c\u00e9lulas humanas de mm. Este efecto anti-proliferativo est\u00e1 mediado por la disminuci\u00f3n de los niveles de p21 y de fosforilaci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna del retinoblastoma. Por todo ello propone que el metabolismo de los \u00e1cidos grasos es una nueva diana terap\u00e9utica a emplear en la b\u00fasqueda de nuevos compuestos con actividad anti-proliferativa y que puedan ser empleados en el tratamiento del mm.
