El objetivo es proponer y evaluar mecanismos que mejoran diferentes aspectos del rendimiento de la red. Estas mejoras se consiguen mediante el intercambio de informaci\u00f3n entre las capas de la pila de protocolos, un concepto conocido como dise\u00f1o cross-layer (cl). Esta tesis se divide en dos partes principales.  la primera parte de la tesis introduce dqca, un novedoso protocolo mac basado en colas distribuidas. Dqca se comporta como un protocolo de reserva que garantiza la transmisi\u00f3n de datos sin colisiones durante la mayor\u00eda del tiempo y cambia de manera autom\u00e1tica y transparente a un protocolo de acceso aleatorio tipo aloha cuando la carga de tr\u00e1fico es muy baja. Dqca puede ser mejorado mediante algoritmos de scheduling basados en un dialogo cl entre la capa mac y las otras capas de protocolo, con el objetivo de aumentar el throughput y garantizar la calidad de servicio (qos).  la segunda parte de esta tesis analiza un aspecto distinto del dise\u00f1o de la capa mac, las transmisiones punto a multipunto en los sistemas de antenas m\u00faltiples. Se proponen modificaciones sobre el est\u00e1ndar ieee 802.11n, recientemente aprobado, que permitan la transmisi\u00f3n multiusuario en el enlace descendente. Se proponen esquemas multiusuario para la capa mac, para gestionar el control del acceso al canal, hacer scheduling y proporcionar mecanismos para realimentaci\u00f3n del estado del canal requerido por la capa f\u00edsica.
