La heterogeneidad espacial de la fertilidad ed\u00e1fica estuvo determinada por la disponibilidad h\u00eddrica para la vegetaci\u00f3n y los procesos erosivos. Una vez controlados los efectos hidrol\u00f3gicos, la cobertura y complejidad estructural de la cubierta vegetal se increment\u00f3 en los suelos m\u00e1s f\u00e9rtiles. El estado nutricional de las especies dominantes en la cubierta vegetal mejor\u00f3 al incrementar la disponibilidad de nutrientes en el suelo. Pinus halepensis aument\u00f3 su eficiencia en el uso del agua al mejorar la fertilidad ed\u00e1fica y su estado nutricional. Stipa tenacissima y rosmarinus officinalis mejoraron su estado nutricional tras la aplicaci\u00f3n de tratamientos de fertilizaci\u00f3n foliar, los cuales promovieron importantes cambios fisiol\u00f3gicos en mecanismos de fotoprotecci\u00f3n y eficiencia fotosint\u00e9tica que permitieron a estas especies realizar un mejor aprovechamiento de los eventos de lluvia.  palabras clave:  nutrientes, resoluci\u00f3n espacial, biotipos, is\u00f3topos estables, fertilizaci\u00f3n foliar y wue (eficiencia en el uso del agua).   the influence of soil fertility in the vegetation is evaluated on a semiarid mediterranean ecosystem characterized by poor soil nutritional availability. The spatial heterogeneity of soil fertility was determined by the water availability to vegetation and erosion processes. Once hydrological effects were controlled, the cover and structural complexity of vegetation increased in the more fertile soils. The nutritional status of the dominant species improved as soil nutrient availability increased. Particularly, pinus halepensis increased their water use efficiency with increasing soil fertility and its nutritional status. Similarly, stipa tenacissima and rosmarinus officinalis improved their nutritional status after foliar fertilization treatments, which promoted important physiological changes in photoprotection and photosynthetic efficiency mechanisms that led to a better use of rainfall pulse.   key words:  nutrients, spatial resolution, biotypes, stable isotopes, foliar fertilization and wue (water use
