El tramo bajo del r\u00edo ebro presenta una larga historia de contaminaci\u00f3n relacionada a la presencia de una planta de productos clorados en la poblaci\u00f3n de flix. Adem\u00e1s. El r\u00edo ebro, se ha visto afectado por la invasi\u00f3n de especies no aut\u00f3ctonas que provocan da\u00f1os el ecosistema natural de la zona. En esta tesis, cyprinus carpio (carpa com\u00fan) y dreissena polymorpha (mejill\u00f3n cebra) han sido utilizados como especies modelo, tanto en laboratorio como en estudios de campo, para desarrollar una bater\u00eda de biomarcadores moleculares para identificar los efectos m\u00e1s relevantes de los contaminantes en el ecosistema. durante el estudio se han utilizado t\u00e9cnicas de expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica para analizar mecanismos espec\u00edficos de defensa de los organismos. La aplicaci\u00f3n y la mejora de los biomarcadores ya establecidos en diferentes organismos acu\u00e1ticos permite analizar los efectos tanto de contaminantes org\u00e1nicos como inorg\u00e1nicos y a su vez definir modelos de acci\u00f3n los resultados obtenidos muestran que las exposiciones cr\u00f3nicas a mercurio en la carpa com\u00fan inducen los niveles de expresi\u00f3n de la metalotioneina en el ri\u00f1\u00f3n, pero no en h\u00edgado, considerado el \u00f3rgano primario de procesos de detoxificaci\u00f3n. El an\u00e1lisis de la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica en escamas de peces proporciona una posibilidad para un nuevo m\u00e9todo no invasivo de estudio de los sistemas acu\u00e1ticos. El estudio de los efectos t\u00f3xicos en el mejill\u00f3n cebra a su vez, muestra que este bivalvo podr\u00eda ser utilizado como especie modelo en estudios de impacto en ecosistemas de agua dulce. El an\u00e1lisis de sus mecanismos de detoxificaci\u00f3n, particularmente de las prote\u00ednas transportadoras de membrana abc en adultos y larvas puede ayudar a entender el motivo de la
