La eliminaci\u00f3n de este compuesto de las emisiones antropog\u00e9nicas es de vital importancia, dada su toxicidad, su impacto negativo en el medio ambiente y sus propiedades explosivas.Los sistemas biol\u00f3gicos dise\u00f1ados para el tratamiento de gases contaminados representan una alternativa interesante frente a los m\u00e9todos f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicos utilizados tradicionalmente para este fin, ya que aportan ventajas como son un amplio rango de aplicaci\u00f3n, elevadas eficacias de eliminaci\u00f3n y reducidos costes de operaci\u00f3n. No obstante, su aplicabilidad al tratamiento de cs2 est\u00e1 limitada por las propiedades bactericidas de este compuesto, el n\u00famero reducido de bacterias capaces de crecer en presencia de cs2, la acumulaci\u00f3n de sulfatos sobre el material de relleno y la acidificaci\u00f3n del sistema, lo que hace que su utilizaci\u00f3n a nivel industrial no se encuentre muy extendida.En este trabajo se ha desarrollado un sistema biol\u00f3gico de tratamiento  de corrientes gaseosas contaminadas con cs2, consistente en un biofiltro de lecho fijo relleno con una mezcla peletizada de pur\u00edn de cerdo y serr\u00edn.  Tras estudiar dos estrategias de arranque, la eliminaci\u00f3n de cs2 se ha relacionado con la presencia de thiobacillus thioparus, especie enriquecida a partir de la biomasa ind\u00edgena del material de soporte. La optimizaci\u00f3n de la frecuencia de riego del lecho y la utilizaci\u00f3n de un sentido de flujo de alimentaci\u00f3n alterno (ascendente-descendente con una frecuencia de 10 d\u00edas) hacen del biofiltro un sistema robusto capaz de contrarrestar el impacto de repentinas y breves fluctuaciones en las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n, las cuales son esperables a la hora de tratar una emisi\u00f3n industrial real (ausencia de alimentaci\u00f3n del sistema, variaciones en la concentraci\u00f3n de entrada, interrupci\u00f3n del sistema de humidificaci\u00f3n, etc.).
