Basic information about their biology and ecology, however, is scarce. In this work we identified that density can affect species spatial distribution. Further we observed that activity patterns of e. Marginatus and e. Costae are affected by storms and water temperature. We determined that both species have similar home-ranges but distinct mobility patterns. Small-sized e. Marginatus and larger e. Costae showed greatest displacement distances. Groupers are territorial and sedentary species, and protection offered by marine protected areas is effective. When abundance treshhold is reached benefits of protection can be perceived by exporting biomass to adjacent fishing areas.  key words: groupers, mobility, home range, marine protected areas, spillover, density-dependence     los meros son especies emblem\u00e1ticas de los arrecifes costeros, y muy vulnerables a la sobrepesca. Sin embargo, a\u00fan falta por conocer informaciones b\u00e1sicas sobre su biolog\u00eda y ecolog\u00eda. En este trabajo se comprob\u00f3 que la densidad afecta la distribuci\u00f3n espacial de las especies. Adem\u00e1s se observ\u00f3 que los patrones de actividad de e. Marginatus y e. Costae se ven afectados por los temporales y por la temperatura del agua. Ambas especies tienen \u00e1reas de vida muy semejantes, pero difieren en sus pautas de movilidad. Individuos peque\u00f1os de e. Marginatus e individuos grandes de e. Costae realizan los mayores desplazamientos. Los meros son especies territoriales y sedentarias, y la protecci\u00f3n conferida por las \u00e1reas marinas protegidas es efectiva.
