Se han construido variantes quim\u00e9ricas en las que esta regi\u00f3n se ha sustituido por la secuencia  (aa)19gpg(aa)19 donde aa puede ser glicina (poli-g), alanina (poli-a), valina (poli-v) y leucina (poli-l). S\u00f3lo poli-a ha resultado en una especie soluble monom\u00e9rica a ph \u00e1cido aunque sometida a un equilibrio lento con un tetr\u00e1mero a ph neutro y b\u00e1sico y con un plegamiento de alto contenido helicoidal (s\u00f3lo 10% menor que pf-cola) pero poco cooperativo y sin dispersi\u00f3n espectral seg\u00fan los datos de nmr. Hasta el nivel en que se ha podido describir la forma insertada de las prote\u00ednas poli-a y pf-cola, \u00e9stas son muy semejantes mutantes puntuales realizadas en la h\u00e9lice h9 de poli-a muestran un comportamiento diferencial en su interacci\u00f3n con el l\u00edpido. El hecho de que cambios m\u00ednimos en secuencia   resulten distinguibles en su efecto, resalta el potencial de este sistema como transportador de secuencias t\u00edpicas de membrana. El rango de hidrofobicidades accesible a este modelo puede ampliarse considerablemente si se ponen en juego variaciones de la composici\u00f3n lip\u00eddicas y condiciones y ph del
