En una primera secci\u00f3n, se realiza una evaluaci\u00f3n de la metodolog\u00eda aplicada en el golfo de vizcaya para estudios tr\u00f3ficos en peces: se propone una nueva metodolog\u00eda de control interno (con bolas de resina) para comprobar la calidad del procedimiento de conteo y clasificaci\u00f3n en el an\u00e1lisis semiautom\u00e1tico rutinario del zooplancton, y se eval\u00faa el uso de una c\u00e1mara digital para dicho an\u00e1lisis; se define el modo de resolver un problema de subestimaci\u00f3n de la contribuci\u00f3n de biomasa del krill digerido en los contenidos estomacales de los peces a su dieta; se eval\u00faan las metodolog\u00edas de muestreo volum\u00e9trico y gravim\u00e9trico para los an\u00e1lisis de contenidos estomacales; y se optimiza el dise\u00f1o de muestreo dirigido a estudios tr\u00f3ficos. En una segunda secci\u00f3n, se estudia la ecolog\u00eda tr\u00f3fica de las especies pel\u00e1gicas peque\u00f1as m\u00e1s importantes que comparten el mismo nicho: anchoa, sardina, chicharro atl\u00e1ntico (negro) y mediterr\u00e1neo (blanco), verdel atl\u00e1ntico, macarela, boga y espad\u00edn. Para los juveniles de anchoa, el cantil, con mayor concentraci\u00f3n de presas grandes y baja turbidez, pod\u00eda definirse como zona \u00f3ptima de alimentaci\u00f3n; adem\u00e1s, un mayor contenido estomacal en dichos juveniles (con est\u00f3magos m\u00e1s pesados) parece ser s\u00edntoma de una buena condici\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica que se relaciona con el reclutamiento de la anchoa. Por otro lado, las especies pel\u00e1gicas peque\u00f1as analizadas utilizan la totalidad del rango de talla de presa disponible, incluyendo las presas m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as y, seg\u00fan van creciendo, simplemente incorporando presas m\u00e1s grandes siempre que puedan ingerirlas. En cuanto a la composici\u00f3n de las dietas, se ha encontrado un alto grado de traslapo tanto entre las especies como entre peces de distintos tama\u00f1os. Aunque los cop\u00e9podos calanoides componen el alimento principal, tambi\u00e9n se han observado organismos m\u00e1s grandes en la mayor\u00eda de los depredadores. Adem\u00e1s de la talla, los factores principales que controlan las variaciones en la composici\u00f3n de dieta son el \u00e1rea y el tiempo. Finalmente, la \u00faltima secci\u00f3n de esta tesis eval\u00faa los efectos ecol\u00f3gicos de las interacciones tr\u00f3ficas entre las especies pel\u00e1gicas peque\u00f1as para la anchoa del golfo de vizcaya.
