Definimos tres exposiciones de hipertensi\u00f3n: 1) hipertensi\u00f3n frente a no-hipertensi\u00f3n; 2) hipertensi\u00f3n tratada frente a no tratada; 3) cinco categor\u00edas de ant ihipertensivos mutuamente excluyentes (beta-bloqueantes, tiazidas, agentes del eje renina-angiotensina, combinaciones, otros) frente a hipertensi\u00f3n no tratada; y dos exposiciones gen\u00e9ticas que reflejan la carga total de riesgo gen\u00e9tico: dos tanteos g en\u00e9ticos, de 16 snps asociados a la glucosa en ayunas y de 33 snps asociados a la diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Evaluamos la variaci\u00f3n media en la glucosa en ayunas o riesgo de diabetes a ~4 a\u00f1os por categor\u00eda de hipertensi\u00f3n y por cambio en alelo de rie sgo en los tanteos gen\u00e9ticos, buscando interacci\u00f3n estad\u00edsticamente significativa (p\u00ed\u00a70,05) entre hipertensi\u00f3n y tanteos gen\u00e9ticos.  resultados: frente a no-hipertensi\u00f3n, la hipertensi\u00f3n confiri\u00f3 mayores variaci\u00f3n en la glucosa en ayunas (2,6 frente a  1,7 mg\/dl; p\u00ed\u00a70,0001) y riesgo de diabetes (or=2,9; ic 95  2,8-3,0; p\u00ed\u00a70,0001). Frente a hipertensi\u00f3n no tratada, la hipertensi\u00f3n tratada confiri\u00f3 mayores variaci\u00f3n en la glucosa en ayunas (3,4 frente a 3,0 mg\/dl; p\u00ed\u00a70,0001) y riesgo de diabetes (or=1, 4; ic 95  1,3-1,5; p=0,02). Los beta-bloqueantes (or=1,6; ic 95  1,1-2,4), el tratamiento con combinaciones (or=1,6; ic 95  1,1-2,5) y con otros (or=2,0; ic 95  1,4-2,9) aumentaron el riesgo de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (todos p\u00ed\u00a70,02). Los tanteos gen \u00e9ticos aumentaron tanto la variaci\u00f3n en la glucosa en ayunas (0,6 mg\/dl por alelo de riesgo; p=8,9&#215;10-16) como el riesgo de diabetes (~17  por alelo de riesgo; p=2,1&#215;10-7), a ~4 a\u00f1os.
