Blandura, transparencia, el hecho de que se pueda te\u00f1ir y  que sea econ\u00f3mica y de f\u00e1cil hallazgo, hicieron que la cera fuera un material largamente utilizado, a lo largo de los siglos, en distintos campos. Adem\u00e1s se ha descubierto como el arte de la ceropl\u00e1stica calca en algunos puntos el aprecio por la po\u00e9 tica del arte ilusorio, la m\u00edmesis, que llega al punto m\u00e1s \u00e1lgido en la edad del manierismo y en la primera edad barroca. En los siglos siguientes, con la llegada de las po\u00e9ticas clasicistas, este arte inicia su declive. Desde un punto de vista art\u00eds tico pr\u00e1cticamente desaparece, sobreviviendo en \u00e1mbitos menores como las aplicaciones devocionales y los museos de cera del siglo xix. Por otro lado, se incrementa su uso a escala did\u00e1ctica, en \u00e1mbito cient\u00edfico, para el estudio de la anatom\u00eda normal  y patol\u00f3gica, de la obstetricia, zoolog\u00eda y bot\u00e1nica.  las investigaciones han sido desarrolladas alrededor del concepto de \u00c2\u00bfcuerpo de cera\u00c2\u00bf, planteando el trabajo como una enorme autopsia donde destaca el an\u00e1lisis de la ceropl\u00e1stica religiosa, anat \u00f3mica y contempor\u00e1nea. Presente a menudo en la literatura, este arte suele asociarse con el concepto del doble inquietante, el doppelg\u00ed\u00a4nger del cual hablaba freud, subrayando el tipo de respuesta psicol\u00f3gica que este arte provoca en el espectador. de jando el par\u00e9ntesis de medardo rosso que coincide con la llegada de la modernidad, la ceropl\u00e1stica art\u00edstica casi desaparece hasta el periodo contempor\u00e1neo, cuando los artistas re-descubren y empiezan a explotar el car\u00e1cter siniestro y reversible de la cera, redescubriendo el placer de un arte que tiende al naturalismo y que se
