Zientzia  kognitiboan eta zientziaren filosofian aipatu izan diren hainbat kasu historiko aurkeztuko dira motzean hasieran, eta irizpide funtzinalista batez rol desberdinen sailkapen bat proposatuko da beste baliabide heuristiko batzuekin (diagramekin, gogo-esperimentuekin, muturreko arrazonamenduarekin, etab.) Analogiak duen kooperazioaren eta ereduaren eraikuntza abduktiboaren baitan. Ondoren etorriko da arestiko bi kasu historiko nagusien azterketa arestiko irizpideei jarraiki. Bernoullitarrek garatutako fluido mekanikaren genesiak ordura arte fisika newtondarrak eskainitako iruditegia egokitu behar izan zuen, eta mekanika kuantikoak, non pauliren esklusio printzipioaren jasokunde nomikoa gertatu zen, errotik berritu zuen iruditegi klasikoa.
