Unesco 2211)                                                     extracto\/resumenla tesis doctoral describe las propiedades tanto estructurales como electr\u00f3nicas de aleaciones superficiales entre tierras raras y metales nobles. Al depositar bajo determinadas condiciones \u00e1tomos de tierras raras, en particular gd, la y ce, sobre metales nobles (au, ag y cu) con orientaci\u00f3n (111), se forman unos compuestos superficiales localizados exclusivamente en la superficie. Estas superficies bimet\u00e1licas presentan distintas propiedades a las de los metales puros, adem\u00e1s de una estructura peri\u00f3dica (patr\u00f3n de moir\u00e9) que puede usarse como templado sobre el cual crecer distintas nanoestructuras. El trabajo comienza con la descripci\u00f3n del sistema modelo de gd sobre au(111). Despu\u00e9s se estudian distintas tierras raras manteniendo el mismo substrato de oro, obteniendo como resultado que es la aleaci\u00f3n con gd la que presenta una mayor homogeneidad. Por eso se usa gd como tierra rara a depositar en otros metales nobles, ag(111) y cu(111).
