A nivel plasmático. "flavonoids effect in an obese mice model db/db" abstract objectives: obesity is a disease whose prevalence has been increasing over recent decades. The consequences of being overweight on the cardiovascular, digestive, osteo-articular and endocrine-metabolic systems are well known, and the disease has been associated with several types of cancer. Meanwhile, studies have pointed to the beneficial effects of flavonoids, which may act as antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, antihypertensive and cardioprotective agents, and which possess anti-obesity properties. The general aim of the research described within was to analyse the effect of flavonoids in an experimental obese mouse model. methodoly: an experimental study was made using 60 female leprdb / db mice (n=10) to ascertain the effect of 4 types of flavonoid: ash extract (e. Fresno = ash e), spergularia extracto (spergularia e), pomegranate extract (pomegranate e), and citrolive. The three extracts were administered in the feed, while citrolive was provided in the water (po-citrolive) or subcutaneously (sc-citrolive) over a period of 7 months. The weight of the mice was determined monthly and the arterial tension every two weeks. The following parameters were analysed in plasma: total cholesterol, hdl (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, triglycerides, adiponectin, tnf-? (Tumor necrosis factor alpha), homocysteine, glucose, glycosylated haemoglobin, insulin and homa-ir (the homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance). A histopathological analysis of the liver was made at the end of the experiment. The data were analyzed by the statistics program anova spss v 21. results: a decrease in weight was observed in the animals of all treatment groups compared with the control group, except in the case of po-citrolive. The decrease was related with an increase in adiponectin in the treated groups, accompanied by lower levels of plasma tnf-?. Total plasma cholesterol was lower in all the treatments, while, after 7 months of treatment, the ash e, spergularia e and po-citrolive groups showed lower serum triglyceride concentrations than the control group. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure values and homocystein levels were lower than the control group. Glucose and glycosylated haemoglobin were not affected by any treatment, except ash e. However, insulin levels and homa-ir were lower in the flavonoid-treated groups, reflecting a lower resistance to insulin. Hepatic steatosis was significantly lower in all the treated groups (grade 1 in all groups, except in the po-citrolive group, which showed the same level as the control group – grade ii). The data demonstrate the beneficial effect of weight loss – which translated into lower blood pressure, improved lipid profile and lower steatosis in the groups treated with flavonoids.
