Todos los pacientes fueron sometidos a un estudio periodontal con evaluaci\u00f3n del numero de dientes, \u00edndice de sangrado, \u00edndice gingival, \u00edndice de higiene oral simplificado, \u00edndice de necesidad de tratamiento periodontal de la comunida, nivel de inserci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica, profundidad de sondaje, n\u00famero de bolsas periodontales ?= 4 mm y n\u00famero de bolsas periodontales ?= 6 mm. resultados: una alta preValencia de enfermedad periodontal fu\u00e9 detectada en los pacientes con etev (p&lt; 0.001). El \u00edndice de sangrado, \u00edndice gingival, \u00edndice de higiene oral simplificado, nivel de inserci\u00f3n cl\u00ednico y profundidad de sondaje fueron m\u00e1s altos en los pacientes con enfermedad tromboemb\u00f3lica venosa (etev) que en el grupo control (p&lt; 0.001). conclusi\u00f3n: una alta preValencia de enfermedad periodontal fu\u00e9 diagnosticada en los pacientes con enfermedad tromboemb\u00f3lica venosa. Existe una asociaci\u00f3n entre la enfermedad periodontal y la enfermedad tromboemb\u00f3lica venosa.  introduction: in recent years, periodontal disease has been related to a large number of systemic disorders. objectives: the aim of this study was to find a relationship between periodontal disease and venous thromboembolic disease.  materials and method: a total of 197 patients were included in the study, 97 patients with a diagnosis of venous thromboembolic disease in the thromboemboly unit of the virgen de la arrixaca university hospital and 100 healthy controls of the university dental clinic in murcia, in order to establish an association between these two conditions. All patients were subjected to periodontal examination, with evaluation of the number of teeth, bleeding index, gingival index, simplified oral hygiene index, community periodontal index of treatment needs, clinical attachment level, probing pocket depth, number of pockets &gt;= 4 mm, and number of pockets &gt;= 6 mm.  results: a high prevalence of periodontal disease was detected in patients with thromboembolic disease (p &lt; 0.001). Bleeding index, gingival index, simplified oral hygiene index, clinical attachment level, and probing pocket depth were higher in venous thromboembolic disease patients than in the control group (p &lt; 0.001).  conclusion: a high prevalence of periodontal disease was detected in venous thromboembolic patients.
